1. Roman law. A pound weight or a coin weighing a pound, divisible into 12 parts, called unciae. • As and the multiples of its unciae were used to denote interest rates. See UNCIA.

2. Roman & civil law. A whole inheritance; the whole of an asset. Pl. asses.
