wager n. (1)赌博合同 指两人或多人约定以不确定事件的发生与否决定相互间财物的输赢，且各方除此之外并无其他利益。该词与bet、gamble作为同义词通用于日常语言和法律文件中。 (→bet; bookmaking; gambling; pari-mutuel betting) (2)赌博 在刑法上，该词与bet同义，但它们不是指合同法上所称的那种由双方当事人的合意而达成的协议，因为如果这样理解的话，在通过利用假装的共犯〔feigned accomplices〕侦破的案件中，由于除了该假装的共犯的证言外，没有其他反对被告人的证据，将会使被告人逃避惩罚。
