order of the coif

Order of the Coif (koyf).

1. Formerly, the order of serjeants-at-law, the highest order of counsel at the English Bar. • The last serjeant was appointed to the Order in 1875.

2. An honorary legal organization whose members are selected on the basis of their law-school grades. See COIF.
