4. Parliamentary law. (Of a special committee that has exhausted its business) to dissolve and send a report to the referring body. • A committee’s rising is equivalent to a deliberative assembly’s adjourning sine die. — Also termed rise and report. Cf. adjourn sine die under ADJOURN(2).
