• This franchise was also known as a free chase to contrast it with a chase royal — a chase held by the Crown.

chase n. (1)狩猎地；猎场 在英格兰法中，指把一片有林木的土地划为一个有野兽栖息的地区，以供狩猎之用。它通常比森林小，而且没有那么多的管理人员；与公园相比，则较大而且有更多的管理人员，并有供狩猎用的野兽。狩猎地与公园的另一个不同点在于它没有被围起来，但它也有确定的边界和界线。属于国王的狩猎地叫做皇家狩猎地〔chase royal〕，属于臣民的狩猎地——不论其是否由国王授予——叫做自由或开放狩猎地〔free or frank chase〕。自由或开放狩猎地现已被废除。 (2)狩猎权 指在一特定地区狩猎的特权，而不论该地区的土地是否归该人所有。在联合王国，公民的自由狩猎权已被1971年的《野生动物及森林法》〔Wild Creatures and Forest Laws Act〕所废除。 (3)(通过暴力、计谋等)占有野生动物的行为 猎人可以经由实际占有而取得对猎物的所有权，但是未经他人许可不得以狩猎为目的而进入该人的土地。
