A species of comparative law seeking to establish a universal history of law, so that the succession of social phenomena influencing the evolution of the legal world might be better understood. • This field is closely allied to ethnological jurisprudence, folklore, legal sociology, and jurisprudence. — Also termed comparative history of law.
