computer matching

computer matching. The comparing of computer records in two separate systems to determine whether the same record exists in both systems. • The government, for example, uses computer matching to find persons who are both employed and receiving welfare payments and to find instances in which both divorced parents are claiming the same child on their income-tax returns. See COMPUTER MATCHING AND PRIVACY PROTECTION ACT OF1988.
