Emergency Preparedness and Response Directorate. The division of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security responsible for coordinating relief and recovery efforts and for developing and coordinating plans to prevent terrorism and to minimize risks of danger from natural disasters. • The Directorate includes the Federal Emergency Management Agency and also coordinates efforts with the Strategic National Stockpile and the National Disaster Medical System from the Department of Health and Human Services, the Nuclear Incident Response Team from the Department of Energy, the Domestic Emergency Support Teams from the Department of Justice, the National Domestic Preparedness Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and state and local emergency responders. — Abbr.
