encroachment, n.

1. An infringement of another’s rights.

2. An interference with or intrusion onto another’s property (the court remedied the encroachment by ordering the defendant to cut down the tree limb hanging over the plaintiff’s yard). — Formerly also spelled incroachment. See TRESPASS. [Cases: Trespass 12. C.J.S. Trespass § 13.]
