equinox (ee-kw[schwa]-noks orek-w[schwa]-noks), n. One of the two periods of the year when the time from the sun’s rising to its setting is equal to that from its setting to its rising. • The vernal equinox is about March 21, and the autumnal equinox is about September 22.
