excambium

excambium (eks-kam-bee-[schwa]m), n. [Latin]

1. An exchange; a place where merchants meet to transact their business. — Also termed (in Scots law) excambion.

2. An equivalent in recompense; a recompense in lieu of dower ad ostium ecclesiae.
