in extremis (in ek-stree-mis). [Latin “in extremity”]

1. In extreme circumstances.

2. Near the point of death; on one’s deathbed. • Unlike in articulo mortis, the phrase in extremis does not always mean at the point of death. Cf. IN ARTICULO MORTIS.
