landlocked

landlocked, adj.

1. Surrounded by land, with no way to get in or out except by crossing the land of another (because the tract was landlocked, the buyer claimed an easement of necessity across the seller’s property).

2. (Of a country) surrounded by other nations, with no access to major navigable waterways (the landlocked nation had always been at a mercantile disadvantage to its seafaring neighbors).
