mancipare (man-s[schwa]-pair-ee), vb. [fr. Latin manus “hand” + capere “to take”] Roman law.

1. To alienate (a thing) through mancipation.

2. To sell (esp. a person) fictitiously as part of the emancipation process. See MANCIPATION.
