mandator (man-day-t[schwa]r orman-day-t[schwa]r).

1. A person who delegates the performance of a mandate to another.

2. Civil law. The person who employs another (called a mandatary or mandatarius) in a gratuitous agency. See MANDATE(5). — Also termed mandant.
