mineral servitude

Louisiana law. A servitude granting the right to enter another’s property to explore for and extract minerals; specif., under the Louisiana Mineral Code, a charge on land in favor of a person or another tract of land, creating a limited right to use the land to explore for and produce minerals.

• The servitude is generally equivalent to the severed mineral interest in a common-law state. [Cases: Mines and Minerals 55. C.J.S. Mines and Minerals §§ 158–160, 169.]
