1. A half of something (such as an estate). — Also termed mediety.

2. A portion less than half; a small segment.

3. In federal customs law, a payment made to an informant who assists in the seizure of contraband, the payment being no more than 25% of the contraband’s net value (up to a maximum of $250,000).19 USCA § 1619.
