夫妻一体主义 曾经盛行于普通法，指妻在法律上的人格全部为夫在法律上的人格所吸收。在英格兰和苏格兰，妻曾经不能撇下其夫独立取得、拥有或转让任何财产权，妻的此种地位已由衡平法加以改善。自1857年后英国的一系列制定法对此加以全部改变，有夫之妇现已具有完全独立的法律人格，享有订约权及财产权。但现代仍存在夫妻一体主义之遗迹，如妻的住所由其夫决定。
