Lord Chief Justice of England 〈英〉英格兰皇家首席大法官有时简称为「皇家首席大法官」〔Lord Chief Justice〕，王座法庭和民诉法庭很早就有各自的首席大法官〔Chief Justice〕，王座法庭的首席大法官有时享有「皇家首席大法官」的称号。该职位在1859年开始正式存在。现在皇家首席大法官掌管王座分庭，他不仅代表古老的王座法庭的首席大法官，而且还行使以前民诉法庭首席大法官和财税法庭首席大法官的职权，因为这三个法院的管辖权已合并到王座法庭，由其行使。另外，皇家首席大法官还是上诉法院的当然成员。在司法官阶方面，其地位仅次于御前大臣。他由国王(女王)根据首相的提名任命。在任命时如果还不是贵族，即被分封为贵族，并有权享有上议院议员席位，成为枢密院成员。实践中皇家首席大法官主要在上诉法院主持刑事分庭和主持王座法庭下设的分庭〔Divisional Courts〕。只有皇家首席大法官在正式国务场合佩带SS领。
