patronus (p[schwa]-troh-n[schwa]s), n. [Latin]

1. Roman law. Someone who had manumitted a slave, and was therefore entitled to certain services from the slave.

2. ADVOWEE. Pl. patroni (p[schwa]-troh-nI).
