1. Of strict right of law; according to the exact law, without extension or enhancement in interpretation. • This term was often applied to servitudes because they are a restriction on the free exercise of property rights.

2. Roman law. (Of a contract) required to be interpreted strictly on its terms, regardless of circumstances. See BONA FIDES(2).
