summary of the argument

summary of the argument. The part of a brief, esp. an appellate brief, in which the advocate condenses the argument to a précis or synopsis, directing the court to the heart of the argument on each point. • A summary typically runs from one to four pages.

— Also termed summary of argument.

“A summary of the argument, suitably paragraphed. The summary should be a clear and concise condensation of the argument made in the body of the brief; mere repetition of the headings under which the argument is arranged is not sufficient.” Sup. Ct. R. 24.1(h).
