village n. 村落；村庄；社区 指为了共同生活或经营的目的而集合起来组成的一个共同体，也指有社区共同体特性的地区。该词并不是一个专门术语，而更多的只是一个习惯性用语。它可以指一个庄园、堂区、堂区的外围、城镇这些最简单的社会组织。它与mansion的区别在于，后者虽然也可能有许多房屋，但却必须是一个独立居所，附近没有其它东西；如果附近还有其它住户和房屋，那就是village了。一个庄园〔manor〕可能包含几个村庄〔village〕，也可能只有一个村庄。
