tontine

tontine (ton-teen or ton-teen), n.

1. A financial arrangement in which a group of participants share in the arrangement’s advantages until all but one has died or defaulted, at which time the whole goes to that survivor. [Cases: Insurance 2441.]

2. A financial arrangement in which an entire sum goes to the contributing participants still alive and not in default at the end of a specified period.
