Uniform Premarital Agreements Act. A 1983 model statute that governs the drafting of prenuptial contracts and provides a more certain framework for drafting complete and enforceable agreements. • Under the UPAA, a premarital agreement must be in writing and signed by the parties. It becomes effective only upon marriage. The agreement may govern the parties’ assets, support, and obligations during the marriage, at death, and upon divorce.
