visual artists rights act

Visual Artists Rights Act. Copyright. A 1990 federal law that gives a visual artist nontransferable moral rights of integrity and attribution in original and limited-edition creations. • Passed in order to meet Berne Convention standards, the Act protects the original artist — not the owner of the copyright — by granting some rights to prevent the work from being changed or destroyed, and by guaranteeing that the artist may claim authorship of the original work but may deny authorship if the work is modified. 17 USCA §§ 106A, 113. — Abbr. VARA. [Cases: Copyrights and Intellectual Property

6. C.J.S. Copyrights and Intellectual Property § 16.]
