dominus litis (dom-[schwa]-n[schwa]s lI-tis), n. [Latin]

1. Civil law. The party who makes the decisions in a lawsuit, usu. as distinguished from the attorney.

2. Maritime law. A third person who represents an absent party in a case. — Also termed litis dominium.
