in foro contentioso (in for-oh k[schwa]n-ten-shee-oh-soh), adv. [Latin] Hist. In the forum of contention or litigation; in a contested action.

“A decree is said to be granted in foro contentioso where the action in which it is pronounced has been litigated, and parties fully heard on the merits of the case.
