renewal, n.

1. The act of restoring or reestablishing.

2. Parliamentary law. The introduction or consideration of a question already disposed of. — Also termed renewal of a motion. See restorative motion under MOTION(2). Cf. RECONSIDER.

3. The re-creation of a legal relationship or the replacement of an old contract with a new contract, as opposed to the mere extension of a previous relationship or contract. Cf. EXTENSION(1); REVIVAL(1). [Cases: Contracts 217. C.J.S. Contracts §§ 436–443, 446, 448–449, 500–501.] — renew, vb.
