A provision in many insurance policies obligating the insured to notify the insurer as soon as possible after a claim arises. • A requirement in a policy for “prompt” or “immediate” notice — or that notice must be given “immediately,” “at once,” “forthwith,” “as soon as practicable,” or “as soon as possible” — generally means that the notice must be given within a reasonable time under the circumstances.
