modus

modus (moh-d[schwa]s), n. [Latin “mode”]

1. Criminal procedure. The part of a charging instrument describing the manner in which an offense was committed.

2. Roman & civil law. Mode; manner; consideration; esp., the manner in which a gift, bequest, servitude, etc. is to be employed.
