notorious, adj.

1. Generally known and spoken of, usu. unfavorably.

2. (Of the possession of property) so conspicuous as to impute notice to the true owner. — Also termed (in sense 2) open and notorious. See ADVERSE POSSESSION . [Cases: Adverse Possession 30. C.J.S. Adverse Possession § 49.]
