为证明此事

in witness whereof 为证明此事 这是契据结尾条款开始时的正式用语，说明在该契据结尾部签名的人系该契据的证明人，亦即签立该契据的人。「In witness whereof the said parties have hereunto set their hands」的意思就是「为证明此事，该当事人等于此亲笔签名」。
