ancients n. 〈英〉资深律师 指伦敦四大律师公会〔Inns of Court〕和预备律师公会〔Inns of Chancery〕中的特定成员。在格雷律师公会，其成员曾一度被分为四部分，即主管〔benchers〕、资深律师〔ancients〕、出庭律师〔barristers〕和学员〔students〕。在中殿律师公会和预备律师公会中曾一度对除学员以外的所有成员均称为资深律师，现在在中殿律师公会中某些资深的出庭律师仍被冠以此称呼，但仅在就餐的活动中使用。
