literacy test 〈美〉读写能力测试 某些州作为行使选举权的先决条件而要求进行的一项有关公民的读写能力及阅读和理解联邦和州宪法的能力的测试。如此种测试造成有害的歧视,则违宪。1965年的《选举权法》〔Voting Rights Act〕规定,如果某州内只有不足一半的成年人被登记为选民或在前次选举中参加了投票,则该州应暂停进行此种测试。
