suffrage n. 投票;选举权;投票权 它是与民事权利、财产权或人身权〔right of person〕相区别的一项政治权利或特权,指赋予某一组织、国家或团体成员投票支持某一议案或候选人的权利;从更广泛意义上是指投票赞同或反对任一有争议的问题或任命的权利。在美国它是一项受立法机关规定调整、不能为美国和州宪法的明示或默示条款所禁止的权利。但历史上该词通常指有公民权的主体的权利,而不包括被剥夺公民权者的权利。在现代提及该词更多关注的是妇女选举权〔women’s suffrage〕或全民选举权〔universal suffrage〕这些概念。 (→vote; right to vote)
